Seven Syracuse Spartans are headed to the NYCBL All-Star Game. That ties a franchise record, set back in 2017, the Spartans first season. Central New York natives Matt Alexander, Nick Jessen, Pat May and Seth Zurbruegg join Charlie Burton, JC Ng and Noah Roots as NYCBL All-Stars. The seven selections for the Spartans are tied for most in the NYCBL Eastern Division along with the Cortland Crush.

All seven will feature in the NYCBL All-Star Game, which will take place on Monday, July 11, at Wallace Field on the campus of SUNY Cortland. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.

The All-Stars and 10 other selected players around the league will also take part in a showcase prior to the game held by Prep Baseball Report. Spartans pitchers Ethan Collins and Jordan Goldmann have been selected to the showcase. The start time for the showcase is yet to be announced.

Matt Alexander is a Jamesville native and a graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School. The infielder just finished his freshman season at Bucknell University and is enjoying a resurgent second-season with the Syracuse Spartans. He’s batting .355 with 10 RBIs. Alexander’s season included a 13-game hitting streak at one point which saw his average rise as high as .420.

Nick Jessen is the 2021 CNY Pitcher of the Year out of West Genesee High School. Jessen, another second-year Spartan, also finished his freshman year of college at UAlbany. The lefty has been lights out as a starter for the Spartans, tossing a 1.71 ERA in four starts for Syracuse. He has 18 strikeouts in 21.0 innings.

Pat May is a Baldwinsville native and a graduate of C.W. Baker High School. The Monroe Community College infielder is the third and final second-year Spartan to be named to the All-Star game. May is batting .286 on the season with nine RBIs and seven extra-base hits. He leads the Spartans in stolen bases as well with eight.

Seth Zurbruegg is the fourth and final Central New York native from the Spartans to be named to the NYCBL All-Star game. The Onondaga Community College sophomore and Jamesville-DeWitt grad has been electric on the mound for the Spartans. Zurbruegg has a 3.37 ERA in five starts with the Spartans. He has 21 strikeouts in 26.2 innings pitched.

Charlie Burton is the team leader for the Spartans in RBIs. The catcher headed to Webster University in the fall for a graduate season has 25 RBIs on the season. That total is not only good enough to lead the Spartans but also ranks second in the entire league. Burton is hitting .333 on the season with seven extra-base hits.

JC Ng picked up right where left off from his freshman campaign in college. The first-team all-conference selection out of Pomona-Pitzer College has done a little bit of everything for the Spartans. He leads the team in batting average at .357, on-base percentage at .531, slugging at .543, and extra-base hits with 10. Ng is also tied for second on the team with 17 RBIs. Finally, Ng is tied for the league lead in walks with 25.

Noah Roots has solidified himself as a threat in the middle of the Spartans lineup. The University of Mary Washington first baseman heading into his junior year is hitting .275 with nine extra-base hits, including a team-leading four triples. Roots is tied for second on the team with 17 RBIs and is second on the team in stolen bases with seven.

Ethan Collins is one of two pitchers selected to the showcase. The Spartans starter leads the team in strikeouts with 32 in 23.2 innings. The Pomona-Pitzer College right-hander has a 4.56 ERA in five starts.

Jordan Goldmann is the second showcase pitcher to be selected. The reliever-turned-starter from Grossmont College has a 2.12 ERA in 17.0 innings for the Spartans with 20 strikeouts.
