The Syracuse Spartans dropped two games to end the NYCBL regular season, losing 6-1 to the Cortland Crush and 7-5 to the Syracuse Salt Cats. Because of the new rules in the NYCBL, the Spartans will still play in the playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the NYCBL Eastern Division.

The Spartans only managed one run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning against the Crush. Spartans starting pitcher did what he could, pitching seven innings and only allowing one run with six strikeouts. The bullpen allowed five runs in the top of the eighth to give Cortland the commanding lead and the win.

The Spartans took an early lead against the Salt Cats and got more runs from a Yoon Chae two-run double. However, the Salt Cats scored runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-5 victory.

The Spartans travel to Webster to take on the Rochester Ridgemen in the first round of the NYCBL playoffs on Monday, July 21. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm. The winner of that game will play the Syracuse Salt Cats on Tuesday, while the loser ends their season.
