The Syracuse Spartans split a doubleheader with the Rochester Ridgemen, winning game one 7-2 and losing game two 8-0.

The Spartans took command of game one early. A Sammy Lee sacrifice fly and Alex Holberton RBI single gave Syracuse an early 2-0 lead after one inning. An RBI groundout gave the Spartans another run in the second. Syracuse took full control in the fourth off a two-run triple from Lee and an RBI single from Tyler Campbell to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead after four innings. Another RBI groundout gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead.

The Ridgemen scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Spartans took the game one win by a 7-2 score.

Rochester took full control of the game in game two, scoring runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings to shut out the Spartans.

The next Spartans game is a resumed game against the Syracuse Salt Cats on Friday, July 19. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
