SYRACUSE, NEW YORK-A weekend full of games for the Spartans ended with two wins against the Rome Generals and a loss against the Sherrill Silversmiths.

The Spartans travelled to Rome on Saturday for double-header, winning both games 5-0. The two winning pitchers of the day were David Redfield for the first game and Nate Burns for the second.

The Spartans solidified their lead 3-0 in the first inning of the day, then went on to bring in two more runs to win the first game 5-0. The second game took a little warming up, but solid second, third and fourth innings at the plate gave Syracuse a lead that would last to win the game.

On Sunday, July 14 the Spartans played at Lafayette against the Silversmiths, but were unable to secure a third win to end the weekend.

Corey McMann, Spartans’ player of the game, hit a home-run in the second inning to put the Spartans on the board. After long innings of back-and-forth between Sherrill and Syracuse, Sherrill took the win (13-9). Sherrill’s RJ Gouldsbury did a stellar job at the plate, hitting two home-runs to rack up the team’s runs. The Spartans’ Bryce Moore also hit a home-run during the eighth.

Dan Aguilar, Parker Caston and Mason White took the mound for the Spartans on Sunday. The Syracuse Spartans had a total of 18 hits during Sunday’s game. However, the team couldn’t seem to execute the hits at the right time in order to score more runs than Sherrill.
