The Syracuse Spartans fell short in a 9-6 loss to the Syracuse Salt Cats on opening day for the NYCBL. 

The Spartans and Salt Cats traded runs throughout the beginning of the game, but a combination of multiple hit batters, 10 walks and three errors allowed the Salt Cats to break through. The Spartans also unfortunately left the bases loaded three times.  

Joe Wike went 3-5 today as well as getting 1 RBI and scored a run. Matt Alexander walked three times and scored three runs. Tyler Campbell walked four times, twice with the bases loaded.

Harry Meehan shined for the Spartans out of the bullpen, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday, June 6 at the Sherrill Silversmiths. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm. The Spartans return to OCC to take on the Cortland Crush on Saturday, June 8. First pitch for Challenger Baseball Night is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
