The Syracuse Spartans dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Sherrill Silversmiths, losing 15-3 in game one and dropping a tight 5-4 contest in game two.
The Spartans trailed early on in game one. Syracuse gave up two runs in the first, followed by nine in the second. The Spartans grabbed two runs back in the third, one coming off a RBI single from Sammy Lee. But Sherrill added one more run in the third and three more in the fifth to extend their advantage. A lone Spartans run wasn’t enough in the sixth as the Silversmiths took the first game of the doubleheader 15-3.
Syracuse started off game two with the lead, as Nate Rodriguez took advantage of the short wall in right at Noyes Park for the first Spartans home run of the year. His solo shot gave the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. However, singular Sherrill runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings gave the Silversmiths the 4-1 lead in game two.
Rodriguez gave the Spartans a bit of momentum after his second solo shot over the short right field wall to trim the Sherrill lead to 4-2. The Silversmiths however tacked on another run in the sixth for insurance. Yoon Chae joined the home run party with a two run shot in the seventh to keep the Spartans close, but it was just not enough.
