The Syracuse Spartans couldn’t get anything going against the Cortland Crush as Cortland took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning. The Spartans ended up falling 9-1.

Cortland struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Soft contact and two errors allowed the Crush to methodically work their way around the bases to grab the early advantage.

The Crush added to their lead in the 4th inning. Three more hits forced Spartans starter John Tully out of the game, and Max Dio couldn’t quite keep Cortland off the scoreboard. The Crush led 7-0 after 4 innings.

Cortland scored another run in the sixth and seventh inning, but the Spartans couldn’t get anything going against Crush starting pitcher Collin Kratzer. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, before Jaren Megan got the first Spartans hit of the game with a line drive over the third baseman’s head. That hit drove in the only Spartans run of the game.

John Francesconi was the only Spartans pitcher to keep the Crush off the scoreboard, pitching scoreless innings with two strikeouts to end the game.

The Spartans return to action against the Syracuse Salt Cats for Little League Night on Sunday, June 9. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
