SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On a day where the game was pushed up in starting time by an hour due to the late afternoon showers, the Syracuse Spartans attempted to push their win streak to two but ultimately fell 6-1 in a loss to the Rochester Ridgemen.
The Spartans had an impressive 5-inning start without allowing a hit, but it would not be enough as eventually, the Ridgemen would pull away. The Spartans were particularly damaged by the walks from the Ridgemen as they surrendered 8 in the game. The Ridgemen also continued their season success on the base paths, stealing 4 bases in the win as well.
Vince Gamberdella was an active one today, finishing with a solid 1-3 stat line. Along with his hit, he added two stolen bases, a walk, and the Spartans’ only run on the day. Jake Bowman, Zach Garcia, and Robert Johnston combined for the other 3 hits alongside Vince. Brendan Flynn added a sacrifice fly to add an RBI to his season stats, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Spartans only combined for 4 hits and 1 run in total. The team did however manage to muster 4 stolen bases, an optimistic sign of positive production to come.
Looking ahead, the Syracuse Spartans are eager to get back into the win column in their next game. On Friday, July 7th, they will be back home to take on the visiting Courtland Crush in a doubleheader. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM EST, as the Spartans keep their eyes locked on a bounce-back performance.
