SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In an eventful doubleheader and impactful night, the Syracuse Spartans and Cortland Crush traded victories, resulting in a 1-1 split. The real excitement, however, came off the field with the Spartans ALS Awareness Night. With not only a commitment to raising awareness for the disease, but the Spartan community also once again showcased its relentless support by raising over $2000 for ALS!
Game one proved to be a resounding success for the Syracuse Spartans, as they claimed an 8-2 victory over the Cortland Crush. The team looked determined as they were propelled by the standout performances of co-players of the game, Eric Korzeniewski and Robert Johnston. Korzeniewski delivered a stellar pitching display, throwing a complete seven innings, allowing only two runs, and striking out five batters. Johnston provided crucial offensive contributions, going 3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. With a total of seven hits and eight walks, the Spartans showcased their offensive prowess on the way to securing the victory.
The second game brought different fortunes for the Spartans as they fell 7-2 to the Cortland Crush. Despite the loss, Tanner De Grazia stood out with a 1-3 performance, including a double and a run scored. The Spartans amassed 4 hits and 5 walks on the loss.
The game, however, took a meaningful turn during the tribute to ALS Awareness Night. The Syracuse Spartan community once again demonstrated their incredible efforts by raising over $2000 in support of ALS awareness. In a touching moment, both the Spartans and the Crush joined forces to perform the Ice Bucket Challenge post-game, symbolizing their unity around their support to the cause.
