The Syracuse Spartans split a doubleheader with the Sherrill Silversmiths on Wednesday, winning game one 3-2 and dropping game two 10-1.
The Spartans allowed a run in the first and second innings of game one, but struck back with all three runs in the second inning. An Alex Holberton RBI double, Chaz Anthony RBI single and Jake Jaszcz RBI double provided all the scoring for the Spartans.
From there, Luke Boule shut down the Sherrill bats, picking up four strikeouts. That was enough to give him 44 on the season, which set a new Spartans single-season record. John Francesconi picked up his third save of the year with two scoreless innings of relief.
The Silversmiths methodically scored runs in game two before blowing the game open with five runs in the sixth inning. The Spartans lone run game from a Matt Alexander RBI single.
The next Spartans game is a doubleheader at home against the Rochester Ridgemen on Thursday, July 18. First pitch is set for 5:00 pm.
