The Spartans advanced to 10-9 on the season Monday as they defeated the Sherrill Silversmiths 9-3. Nick Jessen took the mound for the Spartans, and advanced to 4-0 on the season, working a select display of a pitch-to-contact approach early. He held the Sherrill offense quiet through all 6 innings of his work. He tallied a final statline of 6.0 IP, 5 K’s, and only two walks to his credit, a stellar outing.

As for the Spartans, a plethora of bats were wide awake early in the ballgame. Sherrill’s ace Noah Rodriguez had a solid outing at first, allowing an unearned run off the bat of Camden New’s fielder’s choice, after an error at second base put Noah Roots at third base. Following that, Rodriguez made it to the 6th frame before allowing his first earned run, giving up a two spot with one out. Colin Williams opened up the scoring with an RBI single, to the credit of Bryce Moore’s single beforehand to put runners in scoring position.

The real scoring didn’t start until DJ Dillehay took the mound in relief in the 8th though. Once he toes the rubber, a record 6 (!) straight singles were poured in, starting with Noah Roots, and ending with Matthew Alexander. Along with a JC Ng walk, and Bryce Moore sacrifice fly, the Spartans tallied 6 runs in the bottom of the eighth, nearly mercy ruling the Silversmiths!

Of the army of successful hitters at the dish, JC Ng’s 2-4 day, with 2 RBIs, as well as Matthew Alexander’s exact same statline, were the two producers of note for Syracuse.

The cherry on top was high schooler Noah Klawson’s efforts in relief, throwing 3 innings, and only struggling after retiring five straight, in his final inning if action, earning his first game finished. He finished the night with three strikeouts to his credit.
