SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Spartans and Rochester Ridgemen faced off in an intense double-header, resulting in a day sweep for the Ridgemen. In the continuation of Tuesday’s game, which was unfortunately rained out in the top of the 3rd, the Spartans started the day with a 3-0 lead. After a warm-up inning from both sides where neither scored, the Ridgemen got their swings back and began to pack on the offense. After two big innings of allowing 2 and 3 runs respectively, the Ridgemen took the lead. The Spartans mounted a solid effort in the 9th securing 2 runs but eventually, the Ridgemen emerged victorious with a narrow 7-6 win over the Spartans.

As the first game concluded, the Spartans were highlighted by their batting, as they worked out to hit the formidable Ridgemen squad in the game 7-5. Tyler Gendron was exceptional with a 3-4 stat line, accompanied by his impactful three RBIs and a run scored which solidified his position as the player of the game. Perry Chetney also made significant contributions, going 2-4, including a double, triple, and crossing the plate twice.

The second game proved to be a tougher challenge for the Spartans, as they fell to the Ridgemen with a final score of 5-2. Despite the outcome, Jake Bowman’s noteworthy performance earned him the title of player of the game. Bowman went 2-4 at the plate and added a run to the Spartans’ tally. Will Kinney did his best, showcasing his offensive skills of patience and a good eye, scoring a run while maintaining a 1-2 line with two walks.

However, the true victory of the day was off the field as the Spartan community once again exhibited its incredible support and generosity. They raised an impressive $1500 for the Ben Foster scholarship through their collective efforts. The scholarship, eligible for local Central New York baseball players in 2024, is

a testament to the community’s commitment to fostering growth and providing opportunities for aspiring athletes. In the face of both triumphs and challenges, the Syracuse Spartans remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence both on and off the field.

As the double-header concluded, the Spartans looked ahead to their next home game. On Saturday, July 1st, they will face the Syracuse Salt Cats in what promises to be an exciting matchup.
