The Syracuse Spartans pitching struggled against the Sherrill Silversmiths in a 14-8 loss.

In the bottom of the first, the Spartans capitalized on costly errors from the Silversmiths as well as the entire lineup being able to get hits to bring runners home.  One big example of this was Sammy Lee’s three-run bases clearing double.

The Spartans led 4-2 going into the top of the second but due to the pitching walking multiple batters, the Silversmiths were able to score 3 runs to make it 5-4. Sherrill tacked on three more runs in the top of the third to take a commanding lead.

Bradley Perry was the bright spot when it came to pitching.  He came in to relieve Max Dio and gave the Silversmiths nothing easy to hit at. He threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the sixth, Matt Alexander started the momentum off with a double, then Joe Wike followed that with an RBI single to bring Matt home to make the game 9-6 in favor of Sherill.

Sherrill took advantage of Spartans misfortunes on the mound as a combined 12 walks and five hit batters allowed the Silversmiths to score 14 by the end of the game.

The next Spartans home game will be a doubleheader tomorrow on Friday, June 14 against the Rochester Ridgemen.  First pitch for game 1 is set for 5:00 PM and game 2 at 7:30.
