CORTLAND, NEW YORK-The Syracuse Spartans fell to the Cortland Crush (4-1) on Monday, July 15.

The game began without much excitement, both teams not making many moves until Cortland put one on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Up until the fourth inning the Spartans had two hits and the Crush had zero.

Pitching for the Spartans was Ryan Sliwinski and Stephen Centorani. Sliwinski started the game, pitching for five innings with four strikeouts.

After Cortland’s pitching substitution, the Spartans’ first two batters were put on base with walks. Eventually, Andres Garcia made it home to put the Spartans on the board, creating a tied-game (1-1). Cortland quickly took back the lead and kept it for the remainder of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Crush had two hits and two runs, making the gamescore 3-1. One more run in the seventh would put Cortland on top 4-1. The Spartans were unable to comeback from there, unable to put anyone on base in the eighth and ninth innings.

Monday’s game ended with Cortland winning 4-1. The Spartans’ final games of the regular season will be this week on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
