The Cortland Crush travelled to Onondaga Community College on Wednesday’s Camp Lookout Night to take on the Syracuse Spartans in a double-header.

Camp Lookout is a non-profit organization that allows children ages 8-13 in Madison County the opportunity to attend a summer camp without any cost. The camp provides children with a fun, week-long summer camp that they may not be able to experience otherwise.

The very first pitch of the first game resulted in a home-run by Crush player Stephen Bennett. Pitching for the Spartans was Ryan Sliwinski. Sliwinski was able to recover from the first-inning home-run, holding the Crush to a total of two runs for the duration of the game.

A single by one of the Spartan’s newest players, Tommy Buckman, began the momentum in the top of the second. Jackson Geisler brought Buckman home after hitting a single as well (1-1). The Cortland Crush retook the lead in the top of the seventh after a double brought in one run.

In the bottom of the seventh the Spartans were able to tie up the game 2-2 after Zac Legarretta placed one in the center-right field gap. A sack-fly to right field allowed Geisler, who was patiently waiting at third, to make it home and win the first game of the day 3-2.

The second game on Wednesday ended quite differently with a Cortland win (12-2). The Spartans went through three different pitchers trying to find a groove: Mike Paciocco, Dave Wilson, and Dylan Steinman.

A huge third inning gave Cortland seven more runs on top of the four they brought in during the second inning. This put the game at 11-0 before it was even half-over. Spenser McGhee made it home to put one on the board for the Spartans in the bottom of the fourth (11-1).

Cortland was able to put one more up after a wild pitch brought Garrett Callaghan home. The Spartans’ Andres Garcia made it home in the bottom of the seventh, but the final inning effort didn’t prove to be enough. The Spartans lost 12-2 to finish off Wednesday’s double-header.

Another double-header awaits the Crush and the Spartans on Thursday. The games will be played in Cortland beginning at 3 p.m.
